A Concert in Memory of Margaret Moncrieff-Kelly (Helen McClelland)
Jamie Walton: Cello • Daniel Grimwood: Piano
Fauré: Elegie
Rachmaninoff: Sonata in G minor, Op. 19
Grieg: Sonata in A minor, Op. 36
Cadogan Hall, 5 Sloane Terrace, London SW1X 9DQ
Wednesday 20 May 2009, 7.30 p.m.
Following the enormous critical success surrounding Jamie Walton’s
2008 releases of concertos by Elgar, Myaskovksy, Britten and
Shostakovich with the Philharmonia, and Daniel Grimwood’s recent
recording of Liszt on an 1851 Erard launched at the Wigmore Hall last December, Jamie and Daniel have returned to the studio to record the two great Romantic sonatas by Grieg and Rachmaninoff. These were particular favourites of the late Margaret Moncrieff-Kelly with whom Jamie studied. This concert and the CD recording to be released by signumrecords in October commemorate the great teacher and person she was.

From Joy Wotton
"We are sorry to announce the death of our President Helen McClelland
on 12 November 2008. Helen was President of the New Chalet Club from
its inception and held a very special place in the Chalet School world
as Elinor Brent-Dyer's biographer, as author of Visitors for the
Chalet School, and for the very active part she played in our
meetings, conferences and gatherings. She was also a distinguished
cellist, Margaret Moncrieff Kelly FRCM, working as a cello professor
at the Royal College of Music. She was an immense support to me in
editing the New Chalet Club Journal, and committee meetings just will
not be the same without her.
Helen McClelland's funeral is at 2 p.m. this Friday (21st November) at St Osmund's
Roman Catholic Church, Castelnau, Barnes. This will be a Requiem Mass
with music. It will be followed by the cremation at 4.20 p.m.Putney
Vale Crematorium on the A3 (towards Surrey, turn left at Asda). The
wake will probably be at the Wetlands Centre in Barnes. Helen's ashes
will be taken to Ireland to be with her husband.
Her daughters want me to let you know that they do hope that as many
of Helen's Chalet friends can be there as possible, since they very
much value that part of her life. And they want me to thank everyone
who has sent along sympathy and kind memories of Helen.
So, if you would like to come, and can come, do come! And please let
other people know."
