Miss Wilson is acting-headmistress, as Miss Annersley is still recovering from the road accident.
The school is at Plas Howells in Armishire.

Everybody thinks it is odd that Dorcas doesn't talk about her family but no-one knows why until Gay, Jacynth and Gillian see a picture of Eunice Brownlow, the actress, and realise that Eunice and Dorcas are related.
They don't say anything, but they believe that Dorcas cut her hair so that no-one would see the resemblance. After the film some of the mistresses notice the similarity also but nobody else does because when Dorcas was injured she had most of her hair cut off.
After Dorcas comes back to school, Gay, Jacynth and Gillian ask her why she didn't want anyone knowing that she is related to Eunice. Dorcas tells them that people always were friendly with her, just so they could meet Eunice. Jacynth assures Dorcas that "we aren't howling snobs in this school" and Dorcas agrees that everyone can know.
The term finishes with Miss Annersley coming to watch the Christmas play and giving the school some good news.
