These are two short stories.

The Triumvirate Went Skiing
(first published 1947 in THE CHALET BOOK FOR GIRLS)

This story is set at Plas Howell in Armishire when Beth Chester, Daisy Venables and Gwensi Howell are in the Third Form. They were bored with the wet weather and when snow began to fall, they decide to go skiing. However, they have a problem; they have no skis.

They manufacture some out of thin board and proceed to try them out whilst on an errand for Miss Annersley. As could be expected, they don't get far before disaster occurs and their discovery by Miss Annersley.

Joey Shoves Her Oar In
(first published 1947 in THE CHALET BOOK FOR GIRLS)

This story is set during the time Grizel Cochrane was head prefect. Miss Wilson has been boasting to the newly arrived Dr. Maynard - an Oxford Rowing Blue - of the rowing prowess of the pupils, especially Jo. Jo does not show her ability well to Dr. Maynard and ends up embarassed and annoyed with herself.

That evening, the over-15's decided to walk to Gaisalm, and they meet a young girl who has run away from her care-giver, and who has contrived to fall into the lake. Jo and Marie von Eschenau rescue the child from drowning using a nearby rowboat and return her to her aunt. Dr. Maynard has to eat his words about girls being unable to manage a boat and keep their heads.
